Framing the new garage

Image
The garage has been gutted. They are putting new trusses onto the front to extend the garage.   They have excavated a little in the front for a raised planter bed. Things are moving along! They also got the front porch ready for concrete. We are scheduled to have concrete poured next Wednesday the 5th.

The front of our garage got ripped off today. Now we have a big open hole. Footings were poured inside the garage for where the new wall will be. This is the space we designated as a mud room. I think next week the concrete will be poured to make the floors for the basement and for the garage. It's nice to have the giant dirt pile gone.

Back Fill and Concrete Cutting

Today was a big day for our project. The concrete basement walls have cured and we were able to push the dirt back in around them. The basement window wells are in. Our garage floor was demolished and hauled away. The existing walls from our basement were also removed and hauled away. A temporary wall has been built. It is nice to have the dirt pile smaller. The giant tractor is back! Garage floor this morning. Garage floor after the concrete demo. Basement walls torn down and removed.

Basement Walls Unveiled

Image
Today a dozen workers descended on the newly poured concrete and removed all the boards that were used to create the form of the walls. You can now see the walls in all their glory! This is where the steps will be to the basement. This is where the windows will be in the new basement rooms. Here is where the garage will extend to. They also made the opening wider so we will get a slightly bigger garage door and it will be easier to pull into the garage.

Basement Walls Poured

Today the cement truck came and they poured the walls for the basement. The walls will cure for 7 days before they can back fill the dirt. They will also spray a waterproofing agent on the concrete to protect it from moisture.

Preparing for Basement Walls

Today a bunch of workers came and constructed these forms for where the concrete will be poured to make walls. There is so much rebar in there. This is in front of the garage. I assume after the wall is poured, they will fill in the hole with dirt. This is the north side of the house where we will have an exterior staircase that will go to the basement. This is the front of the house where our two basement bedrooms will be. The city inspector needs to come by to look at this before they can pour the concrete. We hope to have it poured sometime this week. Then it will have to bake in the sun for a week.
