Basement Floor Poured

Image
The basement floor was poured yesterday. It had been a long time coming. The original contractor who was supposed to pour the floor decided to go elk hunting and not communicate with anyone. So we were left wondering when the floor would be poured. Now that our floor is poured, they can start framing it. We also had part of our backyard bulldozed yesterday. We are putting in a small basketball court.

Garage Door

Image
We got our garage door! I'm so excited about this one. It has lots of windows so we can get more light into the garage. This garage door is taller and wider than our last one. Today we also had a lot of HVAC work done. We will have a 3-zone system. The basement is a zone, the upstairs is a zone and the mother-in-law apartment is a zone. The HVAC looks like a colossal mess. At least we won't be cold this winter.

Walls, Roof, & HVAC

Image
There has been a lot of progress on our project the last few days, the house is taking shape and looking like a house again.  Most of the framing is completed, and today they are putting in windows They had to do a redesign of the roof in the front of the house to accommodate the addition, and they have started putting the shingles on The HVAC crews are here, the project required a redesign of our whole heating / cooling system, so they have torn down a lot of the basement ceiling and are running new ducts all over the place, but the good news is that after months of no heater / air conditioning we should be up and running this weekend

Walls and more Framing

Image
The shape of the add-on is starting to show as of today. They started framing the exterior walls.  It might be a little hard to imagine what all this is, so I will try to illustrate. Hopefully this gives you an idea of how the space will be used. We hope to be completely enclosed soon as the weather is getting colder.

New Roof

Image
Our roof is being replaced. Not only will the shape and length of it change, but all the shingles are being taken off and replaced. We are also adding a covered porch. Being west facing, our front door gets hotter than a furnace during the summer. We have all been branded by our metal doorknob. This new covered porch will prevent those nasty burns. They finished putting shingles on the east side of our house.

Framing Foyer

The new entryway to our house was framed yesterday. You can see where the door will be and the side windows. The garage is finished with framing as well. The recessed part that you see is where they will be putting on a stone veneer.
