Footings Have Been Poured

Image
The footings for the extension were poured today. A rather large pumping truck came to suck the cement up and spew it on the other side of our dirt hill. I was surprised to see the color of cement is a dark red. They must be grinding up Arches and Canyonlands to make cement these days.

Preparing For Concrete

Today they built forms so they can pour concrete tomorrow. This part of the project will happen in stages. They have to pour the footings first. The footings will support the walls that will be poured later. Each time they pour concrete, they have to wait a minimum of 7 days for the concrete to cure. After the foundation is completely poured and cured, they will push the dirt back in around the new walls. Any excess dirt will be hauled away. You may have also noticed a very large steel beam on our driveway. This beam is going to be used to support the upper part of the house once they remove the existing exterior basement wall. This will allow for the basement to have an open feel instead of having walls to support the upper floor.
